A major milestone in HS2’s plan to cut carbon emissions by removing lorries from roads.

On 12 July 2022, HS2 confirmed that more than a million tonnes of construction material have been delivered by rail to the high speed rail’s work sites across Buckinghamshire, taking the equivalent of 100,096 HGV journeys off local roads.

On 12 March 2021, the 100th freight train arrived at HS2’s main construction site at Calvert in Buckinghamshire.

On 18 December 2020, the first freight train has arrived at HS2’s main construction compound in Buckinghamshire, as work continues to prepare for the start of construction across the central section of Britain’s new high-speed railway.

25 August saw the first rail freight delivery of aggregate arrive at HS2’s Washwood Heath site in Birmingham, signalling the start of HS2’s major programme to take up to 1.5 million lorries off the roads to cut carbon emissions.

HS2 Ltd showed an example of how Britain’s new high-speed railway will provide a greener future by enabling new train paths on the existing network which can be used to move more goods by rail.
