Ukrzaliznitsya’s Very First Double Deck EMUs

UZ’s new Class 675 EMUs are designed for inter-regional long distance services on the 1,520 mm gauge Ukrainian network, parts of which are electrified at 3 kV DC and parts at 25 kV AC 50 Hz. Each train consists of six cars (two powered end cars and four intermediate non-powered cars), has a maximum service speed of 160 km/h, and is designed for operation in an ambient temperature range of -40 to +40 0C.

Le Panoramique Des Dômes

On 26 May 2012, 105 years after the first long-closed railway was inaugurated, visitors to the famous Puy-de-Dôme near Clermont-Ferrand will once again be able to ascend this extinct volcano by train. A new, electrified rack railway has been built in just over two years from near La-Font-de-l’Arbre to the summit, and trains supplied by Stadler.

LION: S-Bahn Zürich Double-Deck Trains Reshuffled

As we reported in R 4/08 (p. 6), and R 4/11 (p. 7), in 2008 SBB announced a project for the refurbishment of the four-car Class Re 450 trainsets, SBB’s first-generation double deck shuttle service stock, known as Doppelstock-Pendelzug (DPZ), of which 115 were built between 1989 and 1997.

RegioJet Starts Slovak Operations

Early in the morning of 4 March 2012 RegioJet (RJ) made railway history in Slovakia starting up passenger services over the 100 km non-electrified single track line between Bratislava and Komárno, using a fleet of three-car Talent DMUs hired from Alpha Trains and liveried in yellow vinyls.
