The DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt) is widely known as a governmental German aerospace research organisation with a workforce of about 7,000 - most of them scientists. Over the past ten years security, energy and transport research areas have been added to DLR’s range of activities. From 2007 transport research for rail vehicles has engaged the capabilities of several DLR institutes in one theme - the Next Generation Train (NGT).
