InnoTrans 4.0
The 11th edition of the world’s largest rail industry trade fair took place in Berlin between 20 and 23 September 2016. The event broke its own records for exhibitor numbers (up by 7 % on 2014) and the number of trade visitors (up by 4 % on 2014). We have added an appendix „4.0“ to the event’s title for the purpose of our report, as will be explained in the text.

TGV Euroduplex L’Océane
On 14 September at Paris Montparnasse the first of the batch of 40 TGV Euroduplex Atlantiques, which SNCF refers to as TGV Océanes, was presented to the media. These trains are to be used on the LGV Atlantique, whose two extensions are to be inaugurated in summer 2017.

Regular Services Start On The MTsK
On 10 September 2016 regular passenger services were inaugurated on the MTsK (Moskovskoe tsentralnoe koltso, Moskva Central Ring) suburban line, using a fleet of 33 five-car Class ES2G Lastochka EMUs built by Uralskie lokomotivy. Operations are provided by RZD.
On 11 September 2016, the second day of operation, ES2G-032 runs nears Lefortovo station in the eastern suburbs part of the circle.

Ethiopia Inaugurates First 1,435 mm Gauge Railway
On 5 October 2016, following six years of construction and a total investment of around 4 billion USD, the 761 km 1,435 mm gauge railway, electrified at 25 kV 50 Hz, between Sebeta near Addis Ababa and Doraleh port in Djibouti was inaugurated, initially for freight services.

Developments At Belfort Works
On 7 September 2016 Alstom announced plans to close its Belfort works, which specialises in building locomotives and TGV power cars. The reason for the proposed closure of this historic works was a long term shortage of orders.
The frst of the Chinese Co’Co’ Class HXD2B prototypes, which following construction at Belfort, was tested at Velim. This photo was taken there on 29 October 2009.

DB’s ICE 4 EMUs Granted German Authorisation
On 16 September 2016, Siemens and DB were able to announce that the EBA had granted the 12-car version of the ICE 4 authorisation for operation in Germany.
On 29 April 2016 train 412 004 (9004) leaves the 1,320 m Stammham tunnel on the Nürnberg to München high speed line on a test run.
