Alpha Trains completes sale of 11 Talent DMUs for deployment in Poland

Alpha Trains has completed the sale of 11 Talent DMUs to Public Transport Service (PTS) and Modertrans Poznań. The transaction follows the agreement announced at TRAKO 2025.

Alpha Trains, PTS, Modertrans and the Mayor of the City of Poznań, Jacek Jaśkowiak, marked the closing together during InnoTrans 2026. The fleet consists of 11 three-car Talent DMUs with a maximum speed of 120 km/h, air conditioning, wheelchair-accessible toilets and 137 seats. The Bombardier Transportation-built trains have been in continuous passenger service in Germany and are designed for operation in multiple-unit formations.

The trains will undergo a comprehensive overhaul and be homologated for operation in Poland by PTS and Modertrans. The partners are keeping to their target of having the first units ready for operation in Poland within 18 months. The first six Talents will be handed over in December 2026. The project responds to the continued demand for DMUs in Poland, where many regional routes are not electrified and operators are looking for cost-effective fleet solutions.

Robert Karwasz of PTS said: “PTS is already delivering several overhaul, modernisation and polonization programmes, and the Talent project is the next step in this development. For this particular programme, we are working together with Modertrans and Alpha Trains to meet the needs of the Polish market and to provide the workshop capacity required in Paterek and Poznań.”

The overhaul and modernisation work will contribute to rail industry activity in the Poznań region, where Modertrans operates maintenance and modernisation facilities and already performs work on diesel and electric multiple units for several Polish operators. With 11 trains, the project represents one of the largest planned deployments of Talent DMUs in Poland.

Looking ahead, Alpha Trains believes additional opportunities exist for the deployment of further Talents in Poland: over the coming years, the company could make up to 50 Talents available to the Polish market, subject to customer demand and project requirements.

Public Transport Service (PTS) specializes in the acquisition, overhaul, and homologation of secondary market rail vehicles. The company's strategy focuses on delivering high-quality, technically sound, and fully certified rolling stock to operators, ensuring efficient and reliable public transport solutions.

Modertrans Poznań’s operations encompass the manufacturing, modernization, repair, and overhaul of light rail vehicles, as well as the refurbishment of spare parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies for them. The company holds an estimated share of approximately 30 % in the Polish tram market. Currently, the company’s flagship product offering for the tram market consists of the Moderus Gamma family of trams. The company is also active in the railway market. Since 2021, it has been carrying out repair and inspection work on passenger rolling stock at its own facilities.
