Railjet: Return Visit To Czech Republic
As we reported in R 1/13, p. 6, the visit of an ÖBB Class 1216 Taurus with railjet to the Czech Republic in February 2013 enabled the verification of certain operational and interactive parameters between the locomotive and a railjet rake and on the SŽDC network, and was deemed satisfactory.
On 17 April 2013 the rake 80-90.716 ran as train SC 513 Praha - Ostrava instead of the regular Pendolino EMU, and is seen here leaving Praha hl. n.

Modernising Of The Arlanda Express
In 2010/11 the seven Class X3 EMUs used on the service linking Stockholm with Arlanda airport were subjected to a major refurbishment, which also resulted in a 20 % increase in seating capacity. The operator is endeavouring to win more passengers and thus to ease local road congestion and resultant contamination.

China To Europe Railfreight Developments
In 2012 there were many media reports of direct railfreight services linking China and Europe. Such long haul freights are nowadays no novelty, and their number is steadily increasing. Regular, frequent services are being established, and the number of origins and destinations is growing.
For a couple of months during the first half of 2012 some of the CKD BMW car kits destined for the BMW assembly works in Shenyang started their rail journey to China from the logistics hub near Leipzig via the Elbe valley line, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, en route to Ukraine. Here is DB Schenker’s 180.020 at the head of one of these trains, behind Kurort Rathen on 6 March 2012.
