Salzburger Lokalbahn operates 18 two-car ET40 EMUs. In 2007 it decided to develop a modernisation project, and in 2010 the INEKON GROUP and Cegelec were selected to realise the contract in which the EMUs numbered ET50 to 58 were to be provided with intermediate cars and redesignated Class ET50NF. The photo shows the modernised prototype, ET54NF, on 27 June 2012 being tested at the ZKV laboratory in Praha-Zličín (on the left is ČD Cargo’s locomotive 753.776 used for feeding of the overhead wire).
