ČD Looking For New Regional DMUs

On 7 August 2020 ČD has announced an invitation to tender for delivery of up to 160 new low-floor DMUs for regional services. The operator will conclude a framework contract with the winning bidder and will immediately order 33 trains. More DMUs will be ordered subsequently according to the PSO requirements. Delivery time is spread over up to 8 years.

On this way ČD would like to cover future requirements of its PSO partners (regions) for the renewal of the DMU fleets with. The new trains with first and second class and a capacity of around 120 passengers will be air-conditioned, barrier-free and fitted with ETCS. They will have a maximum speed of 120 km/h, up to three DMUs will be able to run in multiple.

ČD stated: „Currently, we are looking for DMUs, because our customers request at present the renewal of older trains for with modern, but still diesel-powered vehicles. But we are already preparing for the possibility of acquiring emission-free trains. We monitor the development and experience with battery trains. As soon as our customers are ready to order PSO services on non-electrified lines with battery trains, we will also announce a tender for these. However, for this procurement a financing by the EU or the Czech Republic must be secured.“
