The Ginza Line's busy terminal at Shibuya railway station which is offering interconnections to various JR and private companies undergoes massive construction works since 2009, and it resulted in Ginza line’s platforms relocation. These new platforms are moved from third floor of the department store which is part of the Shibuya station to the bridge over Meiji-dori street, about 130 m to the east.

About 220,000 passengers use the Ginza line Shibuya station daily. The Ginza line dates to 1939 and it is an oldest metro line in Asia.
