Regiojet launched direct service between Praha and Chop in Ukraine

posted on 28th Mar 2024 11:30

RegioJet launched direct trains between Praha and Chop on the evening of 27 March 2024. A part of the Praha - Košice night train runs to/from Chop now, starting with three cars - two sleeping and one seating with a total capacity of 134 passengers. Unlike the test run in early July 2023, when locomotives of the Class 121 and 140 from other operators were deployed, or the test run at the end of February this year using a six-axle Class 182 locomotive, the Košice - Chop section is served by a Class 162 locomotive from RJ‘s own fleet (however in the future there will be another old 3 kV DC electric used).

The new Praha - Košice - Chop service is another alternative to RegioJet‘s  Praha - Przemyśl service to travel by direct night train to the Ukrainian border with the possibility of changing to UZ trains there. The biggest advantage of this new service is easier crossing of the border between Slovakia and Ukraine, when it is not necessary to wait in several hours long queues at the border as in the case of buses. RJ is ready to increase the capacity of Chop trains according to demand.
