Green Cargo And SSAB Renew Three-Year Agreement

posted on 27th Apr 2021 12:10

SSAB and Green Cargo extend their partnership encompassing shipments of around 700,000 t of finished goods annually from SSAB’s plants in Borlänge and Oxelösund to its customers in Sweden and Denmark. The logistics solution, which comprises steel coil and cut lengths of sheet steel, is conducted through Green Cargo’s wagon load network. The new three-year agreement started on 1 January 2021.

“SSAB has considerable flexibility in its transportation flows. We have built a system in the wagon load network that can manage substantial fixed flows in parallel with smaller variable flows. We are very gratified over this reconfirmed confidence, which means that together, we can continue to refine and develop our logistics solution, where quality, capacity and frequency are important parameters,” says Carl Stjärnesund, Strategic Account Manager at Green Cargo.

The volumes are important for Green Cargo’s wagon load network, and Green Cargo’s customer service team is on site at SSAB’s premises to enable optimal management of the customer’s transportation needs. Green Cargo also handles shunting at the premises seven days a week and assembles wagon load trains for onward departure to the recipients.

The logistics solution encompasses wagon loads of finished goods such as steel coil and cut lengths of sheet steel. The shipments of some 700,000 tonnes per year correspond to 30,700 trucks. The best alternative for these kinds of volumes is the railway. Not just from the perspectives of the environment and safety, but also due to the handling required at the plants.

SSAB develops high-strength steels and provides services for better performance and sustainability. The company is a leading producer on the global market for Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS) and Quenched & Tempered Steels (Q&T), strip, plate and tubular products, as well as construction solutions. SSAB’s steels and services help to make end products lighter and increase their strength and lifespan. SSAB’s production plants in Sweden, Finland and the US have an annual steel production capacity of approximately 8.8 million tonnes. SSAB has approximately 14,000 employees in over 50 countries.
