More EMUs for Euskotren

On 13 July 2023 Euskotren awarded CAF a 60 million EUR contract for five more four-car fully gangwayed Class 980 EMUs for use on Metro de Bilbao's 6.6 km Line 5, which is now under construction in the eastern suburbs of Bilbao, between Sarratu and Gldakao. The value of the contract includes the supply of CAF's own Auriga on-board ETCS Level 1 equipment for these trains, together with the same for the 28 Class 950 EMUs, which have now been in service for several years. Deliveries are to take place in 2026 and 2027, coinciding with the completion of Line 5. 

In recent years, starting in 2011, Euskotren has completely renewed its EMU fleet, with 58 Class 900 and 950 trains, together with four Class 940s. All have been supplied by CAF.
