posted on 9th Sep 2022 09:58

On 8 September 2022, the Department of Transport (DoT) in Victoria has exercised the third  option under an existing  2018 contract to purchase additional 12 three-car VLocity DMUs for the State’s regional rail network.

The new trains will be delivered following a 250 million USD investment from the Victorian Government as part of the 2022/23 Victorian State Budget. The operator V/Line will use them on the Shepparton and Warrnambool lines servicing those regional communities.

The locally designed trains will be manufactured at Dandenong facility, Victoria, and will have an approximately 65 % local content (in the previous batch it achieved 69 %). Since 2001, Bombardier Transportation/Alstom has received orders for a total of 118 standard and broad gauge VLocity DMUs. 99 of them are currently in service and 19 are still to be manufactured.
