On 12 December 2018 Siemens Mobility has been awarded a 989 million CAD (650 million EUR) contract to build 32 push-pull trains for VIA Rail Canada, the government-owned intercity transportation operator. The contract also includes a supplemental 15-year service of the trains. The trains will be powered by the diesel-electric Charger locomotives, and will be formed by the passenger cars belonging to the Siemens’s Viaggio Comfort family. The cars will be fitted with an air-suspension, an air-conditioning, a passenger Wi-Fi and digital information system. The trains will feature Enhanced Universal Accessibility, offering multiple accommodations for wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

The trainsets will be manufactured at Siemens Sacramento works. Delivery is scheduled to begin in 2021 and passenger service will start in 2022 on VIA’s busiest route, the Quebec City - Windsor Corridor, which connects Canada’s two largest cities, Toronto and Montreal.
