Second Batch Of Talgo 230s For DSB

posted on 18th Apr 2023 22:47

On 18 April 2023, DSB awarded Talgo a contract for the supply of eight Type Talgo 230 non-powered multiple units (NMUs) and spare parts. The contract is still subject to the relevant approvals and also requires approval of the financing by the Danish Parliament. This second order, worth 184 million EUR, comes three years after the framework contract was concluded in February 2020, with a maximum worth of up to 500 million EUR; the first order also covered eight NMUs. Maintenance options for the new trainsets will be discussed in the future.

The Talgo 230s for DSB, with a maximum commercial speed of 200 km/h, will have wider bodyshells than standard cars, allowing for more interior space. The surprise of the new contract for DSB is the driving trailers, as the first batch of Talgo 230 NMUs are expected to have (not much efficient) traction in the form of Class EB Vectrons at both ends of the rake. We therefore asked Talgo:

1) Will the first batch for DSB also consider retrospectively acquiring of driving trailers? Or will the haulage using two Vectrons be preserved?

2) How many cars will have each unit from the second batch (including the driving trailer) and how many from the first batch?

3) When will deliveries of the second batch take place?

We are waiting for an answer.
