Curvilever - the world-first curved electrification cantilever

A world-first cantilever design by electrification specialists, Furrer+Frey has been unveiled at Rail Live in Long Marston. Saving around 100 kg of steel per structure, the Anglo-Swiss engineers state the sleek curved design reduces embodied carbon and installation costs.
Rob Daffern, Principal Engineer at Furrer+Frey UK, said: “The industry is looking for ways to deliver electrification more efficiently, without compromising performance or reliability. Curvilever achieves that by rethinking the geometry of the cantilever itself. The result is a structure that is lower, lighter and simpler to install, reducing material demand and structural loading while remaining fully compatible with established UK electrification standards.”
Compatible with UK Master Series (UKMS) rules, the Curvilever, when compared to a standard mast and cantilever, reduces mast height by more than two metres,
cuts steel use by over 30 %, and, saves around 100 kg of material per structure. The lower profile in turn lowers wind and ice loading, enabling smaller and simpler foundations.
