On 25 September 2020, BMZ sent TEM18DM-3284 and 3299 diesel shunters to Mongolia. Their delivery was carried out under a contract signed in 2019 and valid until 2021 for the supply of 10 Class TEM18DM and 14 Class 2TE25KM locomotives.

They will be operated by UBTZ (Ulaanbaatar Tomor Zam), also known by its Russian name of UBZhD (Ulan-Batorskaya zheleznaya doroga), where 14 Class TEM18DM and 15 Class 2TE25KM locomotives are already in operation. Of the 2019 contract three Class TEM18DM machines (these including TEM18DM-3263 from December last year) and ten Class 2TE25KM machines were delivered so far.

BMZ has been producing the Class TEM18DM locomotives since 2008. Today in Russia and abroad more than 1,500 are in operation. BMZ offers six modifications in total, of which customers will be able to choose the most suitable option for themselves. Class TEM18DMs have been operating in Mongolia since 2011, the Class 2TE25KMs since 2017.
