SBB Orders More KISS EMUs

posted on 21st Apr 2021 06:52

On 21 April 2021, Stadler announced that SBB will order a further 60 six-car KISS trains with a length of 150 m, worth approx. 1.3 billion CHF, confirming an option of an existing order.

41 of the new IR-Dosto (InterRegio double-deck) trains will help to replace the old fleet and to fulfil the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG, Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz) on long-distance services for barrier free boarding for persons with reduced mobility by the end of 2023.

19 RE-Dosto units will be used to eliminate capacity bottlenecks for regional services in the Zürich region and the French-speaking part of Switzerland, to facilitate the expansion of SBB’s service offer and to provide greater comfort.

The first of the new 466 seat KISS EMUs are scheduled for delivery by December 2023, for start of the 2024 timetable. SBB already has 93 IR and RE Dosto KISSes in its fleet.
