Viaggio Comfort Carriages For ČD Take Shape

The first coaches from the ČD contract for 10 five-car non-traction units, which are manufactured in the Siemens-Škoda consortium, are already taking shape. The concept of fixed units will ensure higher safety, lower noise inside the vehicles and a more comfortable inter-car movements both of passengers and train crew. The sets will include the 1st and 2nd class cars as well as a car equipped with a boarding platform and a barrier-free toilet for passengers in wheelchairs. A place for prams and a children's cinema will also be fitted. In one of the end cars there will be also space for storing bicycles.

After leaving the factory, the units will be tested, followed by an authorisation process. The test service with passengers will take place during the next year and from December 2021 it is planned to use the new Viaggio Comfort sets regularly in the west of the Czech Republic, on the „Západní expres“ („Western Express“) Praha - Plzeň - Cheb and „Krušnohor“ Praha - Ústí nad Labem - Karlovy Vary - Cheb services.
