ÖBB ordered further 21 Desiro ML units

On 29 April 2024, Siemens Mobility has received an order from ÖBB for an additional 21 Desiro ML three-car EMUs. Beginning in 2026, these new Class 4746 units will serve routes in the eastern part of the country, in particular the main line between Wien Meidling and Floridsdorf and outer branch lines in Lower Austria. The order will increase the size of the fleet to 294 trains, of which 236 are already in service.

The Desiro ML fleet is now formed as follows:
- first call of frame contract for 70 three-car Class 4744 regional trains (with four doors on each sidewall) and 130 three-car Class 4746 S-Bahn trains (with six doors on each sidewall),
- second call of frame contract for 46 four-car Class 4748 S-Bahn trains (with eight doors on each sidewall),
- third call of frame contract for 48 three-car Class 4746 S-Bahn trains.
