Mankiewicz's faster railway coatings

posted on 28th Jul 2026 05:44

At InnoTrans, the family-owned coatings manufacturer Mankiewicz will present new coating solutions for the railway industry that address one of the sector’s key challenges: reducing downtime while maintaining high surface quality and long-term performance.

A key highlight is a newly developed isocyanate-free clear coat that is ready for assembly after just two hours at ambient temperature. Compared with state of the art clear coat systems and many conventional market-standard solutions, which often require heated curing or significantly longer drying times before further processing, the new clear coat can considerably accelerate coating workflows while also supporting safer application conditions and simplified handling in paint shop operations.

For railway OEMs, operators, suppliers and maintenance facilities, faster drying times can have a direct impact on vehicle availability. Newly built trains can move through production more quickly, while vehicles in maintenance can return to service sooner.

By reducing or eliminating the need for conventional oven-curing processes, the new systems can also help lower energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. The environmental impact of these process improvements can be quantified through detailed calculations in accordance with ISO 14067. This capability is based on the official TÜV certification that Mankiewicz obtained in 2025 for this assessment methodology.
