On 26 June 2023 a new Class EP2DM produced by DMZ has been successfully certified. The certificate issued by the Register of Certification on Federal Railway Transport (RS FZhT) allows batch production of the modified Class EP2D EMU for five years.

The building of a prototype started in autumn 2022. Certification tests of the train were conducted at the VNIIZhT test circuit in Shcherbinka and at the DMZ. Test results confirmed compliance of the train with the requirements of the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union. The certificate allows the EP2DM EMUs to operate in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. Its batch production will start in June 2023.

The 3 kV DC Class EP2DM EMU is a fully domestic development, which  was facilitated by co-financing from the Fond razvitia promyshelnnosti (Industry Development Fund of the Russian Federation). Around 80 Russian enterprises were involved in its production. The exterior and interior of the train have undergone a major transformation compared to previous models. EP2DM received a new shaped end car front designed by 2050.LAB and compliant with TMH's new „DNA brand“.

The key elements of the interior have been renewed. The design of seats  was improved, offering an additional space of 4 to 6 cm in face-to-face arrangement. Compartments are equipped with LCD information screens, ergonomic handrails, LED lighting and high-speed Wi-Fi. The dynamics of passenger traffic will be monitored by an intelligent video surveillance system.
