Bratislava - Wien connection via Marchegg restored

After more than a year and a half of interruption, passenger rail traffic via Marchegg will be resumed on Saturday, 11 October 2025. This will happen thanks to the completion of the modernization and electrification of the 2.4 km long Devínska Nová Ves - state border section. However, the completion date of this construction has been postponed several times, according to the original plan, the closure in the section in question was to end already on 14 December 2024.
Now, REX 25xx category services will return, they will again run every hour from early morning until midnight, and the journey will be faster: between Bratislava and Wien main stations will it be shortened by 11 minutes to 56 minutes; 38 regional express trains will run via Marchegg daily. REX services will be hauled by Vectron locomotives and air-conditioned cars of ZSSK and ÖBB sandwiched between them.
