FLIRT AKKUs for ÖBB

posted on 21st Jul 2023 11:37

On 21 July 2023, ÖBB concluded a tender for a framework contract for up to 120 BEMUs for its Cityjet category. At the end of the tender evaluation, Stadler Bussnang was the best bidder with its offer of FLIRT AKKU units. As the standstill period expired on that date, the award decision is legally binding. The signing of the framework agreement and the first order of 16 FLIRT AKKUs is expected in autumn 2023.

The framework agreement will be concluded for a period of 10 years and the total volume could reach up to 1.3 billion EUR. The first BEMUs of 16-strong batch are expected to start service on the Kamptalbahn (Krems - Sigmundsherberg in Lower Austria) from 2028. Further details of the trains and their area of operation will be announced in the coming months. This order is also linked to the fact that ÖBB early decided not to acquire hydrogen trains after previous studies.
