On 29 October 2025, the Škoda Group signed a strategic partnership agreement with Microvast to develop and produce new generation battery systems for public transport vehicles. In the first phase, both companies will focus on rail use, specifically for new Škoda battery trains. The current goal is to introduce the first vehicle with the new battery system by the end of 2026. The concept of these battery systems will also enable their application in other types of public transport vehicles, such as electric buses.
Founded in 2006 in Stafford, Texas, Microvast is a world leader in battery technology for electric vehicles and energy storage solutions. It has a research and development center in Florida and production plants in Berlin and Huzhou, China. It holds more than 810 patents and patent applications for solving electrification needs. The name Microvast reflects the belief of the company's founder Yang Wu that advances in the field of micro battery components can have a vast positive impact on the environment.
