After successful testing and technical approval, ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam introduced on 18 December 2025 the first two of a total of 13 new TRAMLINKs into regular service. This marks the start of a new era in sustainable public transport for Brandenburg’s capital city.

Bettina Biffi, Commercial Managing Director of ViP, said: “We are delighted to announce the start of passenger service for the new TRAMLINK tram in Potsdam. This modern tram represents a significant step forward in improving urban mobility and will offer residents and visitors a comfortable, environmentally friendly, and efficient way to get around.”

The 42-meter-long TRAMLINKs are about 12 meters longer than the previous Variobahn vehicles and can accommodate up to 246 passengers, including 74 seats. Eight wide doors ensure particularly fast and convenient boarding and alighting. The bright, spacious interior design with step-free access and a generous layout guarantees a pleasant travel experience. Special attention has been paid to the needs of different passenger groups: parent-child seats provide ample space for families, four multifunctional areas make it easy to bring strollers, and two separate zones are wheelchair accessible.

The energy-optimized air conditioning adapts to occupancy, while LED strips indicate door status. The innovative bogie concept with continuous axles ensures a smooth and comfortable ride. Additional features such as USB sockets and a modern passenger information system complete the offering.
