On 21 July 2026, the Škoda Group announced that it is continuing preparations for one of the most significant changes in its almost 170-year history. The group has chosen the Czech branding agency Dynamo design to create a new corporate identity.
The new brand, business name and visual identity should be presented at InnoTrans 2028, and the complete transition to the new brand will be completed by June 2029 at the latest: “In 2029, we will commemorate 170 years of Škoda history, of which we are proud. It is a symbolic moment not only to look back on what generations of our employees have managed to build over almost two centuries, but also to create a new brand ready for the next hundred years.”
This is the result of the fact that, according to the PPF press release of 23 June 2022, "... engineering companies within the Škoda Group have signed an agreement with the car manufacturer Škoda Auto from the Volkswagen Group, which will end all trademark disputes and at the same time eliminate disagreements regarding the many years of concurrent use of the Škoda brand. Part of the agreement is that the Škoda Group can use the name Škoda and the winged arrow logo until 2029. The agreement will eliminate the problem of frequent confusion between the brands of the Mladá Boleslav-based passenger car manufacturer and the Pilsen-based engineering company.
The brand change will not have any impact on existing, negotiated or future orders of the Škoda Group, including Škoda Transportation. The parties have agreed not to disclose the financial details of the agreement on the sale of rights to the Škoda brand. The funds thus obtained will primarily contribute to reducing the debt of the Škoda Group and to the further development of its business, including the development of innovative products and the creation of new jobs."
Škoda Auto owned the Škoda brand and logo for cars and related services, but most of the historical rights remained with Škoda Plzeň and its subsidiaries, including Škoda Group and Škoda Transportation. Škoda registered the winged arrow logo as a trademark in December 1923 and added the word Škoda to it in 1937. The Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker had used the Škoda brand since 1925.
Škoda Group is part of the PPF Group and has around 10,000 employees in several production plants in the Czech Republic, Finland and Turkey. It also has business units in Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Poland, Hungary and Ukraine. In 2025, it achieved sales of 1.45 billion EUR and EBITDA of 143 million EUR.
