SNCB orders first Type AM30 trains

On 19 December 2025, the SNCB Board of Directors decided to sign a framework contract with CAF, following the conclusion of the tender for the purchase of new trains launched in December 2022. The first order includes 180 units (representing 54,000 seats) worth 1.7 billion EUR. According to the contract, the first units are to enter service in 2030.
In total, the framework contract includes an option for up to 380 additional units and is valid for 12 years. The order also includes battery trains to replace the current diesel units.
