In September 2026, SŽ - VIT of Slovenia, has rolled out the first Vectron to be overhauled in house, returning the locomotive to Beacon Rail Capital Europe (BRCE). The SŽ - VIT‘s Ljubljana Maintenance Section, in charge of electric locomotive maintenance, carried out the full overhaul of the 191 023 entirely on their own, marking a major achievement and an important new business opportunity. BRCE is a returning client, using SŽ - VIT services since 2024.
SŽ - VIT started overhauls of electric locomotives for MRCE, enabling the company to offer this type of maintenance on the international market. Overall SŽ - VIT has been providing electric locomotive maintenance for 10 years, having started with the Class ES64F4 locomotives and their bogie overhauls in 2019, and now expanding to Vectron locomotives and bogies. As SŽ - VIT has plenty of experience with the Class 541 Eurosprinters, and has also completed many of Type I3 and lower inspections on Vectrons, this expanded the company‘s capabilities without major hurdles.
To qualify for this level of maintenance, the SŽ - VIT team completed a hands-on training in brake overhaul provided by Knorr-Bremse, and also purchased a measuring device for bogies. In total, two Vectron overhauls are planned for this year, with a further six in 2027. SŽ - VIT is also to expand the range of services on Vectrons down the line with wheel replacements.
