In May 2025, Express Service of Ruse won a contract for ten Type ES3000 shunters for UZ. These are three-axle battery-powered locomotives with a maximum speed of 10 km/h, a starting tractive force of 150 kN and a weight of 48 t, which can hauls loads of up to 3,000 t. The length over couplings is 7.42 m and the wheelbase 4.2 m. The shunters will be able to work up to one week on a single full charge.
The ES3000s will be used in depots across the Ukraine. The first two ES3000s were shipped from Bulgaria in mid-February 2026, the next two in mid-April and two more in mid-June. Deliveries are to be completed by January 2027. ES is an abbreviation for Electric Shunter, while 3000 is the maximum tonnage hauled.
This is the second Ukrainian contract for Express Service. The first one was for a MDD3 diesel shunter some years ago to Ukrspetstransgas, a state-controlled specialized enterprise in Ukraine operating under the umbrella of the national company Naftogaz, which provides oil transportation to Ukrainian oil refineries and transit to the countries of Eastern and Central Europe.
