On 3 September 2025, PKP Intercity announced that it had concluded a tender for the supply of 42 new double-deck EMUs with a maximum speed of 200 km/h, with an option for another 30 units. The (future) contract also includes the maintenance of these trains by the manufacturer for a period of 30 years.

The winner of the financially largest tender in the history of PKP IC was Alstom Polska, which priced the supply of 42 Coradia Max units at 4.1 billion PLN (currently approx. 964 million EUR) and their maintenance at almost 2.8 billion PLN (approx. 659 million EUR). The second offer, from Stadler Polska, was 4 billion PLN (approx. 941 million EUR) for KISS units and 3.3 billion PLN (approx. 776 million EUR) for their maintenance. The selected offer is almost 400 million PLN (approx. 94 million EUR) cheaper. Other criteria in the competition were energy efficiency and delivery times.

In the coming weeks, the selected manufacturer will have to complete the formalities necessary to sign the contract. Alstom will produce these trains at its Chorzów plant, where it has around 2,500 employees.
