ELP takes delivery of its 100th EURODUAL

posted on 4th Sep 2025 15:28

At the beginning of September, European Loc Pool took delivery of its 100th EURODUAL locomotive from the manufacturer. ELP then handed over the relevant locomotive 159 272 to its lessee, the Havelländische Eisenbahn (HVLE) on 3 September, following successful and celebratory test run from Braunschweig to Berlin.

ELP's existing orders still include 84 locomotives of the basic EURODUAL variant and 40 ones of the quadruple-voltage EURO9000 variant, the 100 machines delivered so far being the sum of both (76 EURODUALs and 24 EURO9000s).

The vast majority of ELP's locomotives are operated in Germany, where some have also been delivered directly, and HVLE is the largest customer among such cases, as it has 14 EURODUALs in its own fleet and the anniversary locomotive now taken over is the fifth of the six ordered for lease from ELP. HVLE was Stadler’s very first EURODUAL customer when it signed an initial contract in March 2017 for ten dual-mode locomotives. As the launch customer, HVLE has played a key role in demonstrating the versatility and performance of dual-mode technology.

The handover ceremony took place at HVLE's main operating base in Wustermark, west of Berlin. The photo of representatives of the interested parties shows (from left to right) Ludolf Kerkeling, Executive Director of HVLE, Martin Wischner, Executive Director of HVLE, Willem Goosen, General Director of ELP, Stefan Hofstetter, Technical Director of ELP, and Paula Frontera, Chief Project Manager of Stadler Valencia.

With the 100th locomotive, ELP not only makes a technical statement, but also underlines its ambition: expanding the fleet to 200 locomotives in the coming years.
