First ForCity trams in Frankfurt an der Oder in service

posted on 16th Jul 2025 09:40

On 16 June 2025, the Škoda 46T trams began operating with passengers in Frankfurt (Oder). There are currently ten vehicles at SVF, the last three are undergoing final assembly in Pilsen. The new fleet have the inventory numbers 311 - 323. The first vehicles which entered service on 16 June were 312, 313, and 314. They were joined the following day by 316, and on 18 June by vehicle 311.

Now, Stadtverkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (Oder) can gradually start replacing its ageing KT4 trams. The delivery is part of a joint contract concluded in February 2021 by the cities of Frankfurt (Oder), Cottbus and Brandenburg an der Havel. The Škoda Group supplies trams from a single platform that are adapted to the specifics of each city.

Jan Christoph Harder, President Region West & North at Škoda Group, said: “Frankfurt is the first city to introduce the new trams into regular service in this project connecting three cities with different technical requirements but a common vision of modern and accessible transport. Meeting all these requirements within one platform was not easy, it is great to see that our efforts have paid off.”

Initially, deliveries were scheduled to start in 2023. SVF stated that delivery was delayed due to many unforeseeable external factors, including the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine. This primarily impacted the supply chains of individual components and the availability of personnel at Škoda.

Six Škoda 47T trams have been delivered to Cottbus (for CVBB) so far, which are currently undergoing the approval process, and a seventh tram is almost ready. In 2022, Cottbusverkehr has exercised an option for a further 15 vehicles, seven of which are already in the early production phase.

Two Škoda 48T trams have been delivered to Verkehrsbetriebe Brandenburg an der Havel (VBBr), and two more are nearing completion. All three cities will gradually introduce the new ForCity trams into regular service in the coming months, depending on the progress of deliveries and approval processes.
