Modernization of ČD's RegioSharks

On 30 March 2026, RegioShark 844.012 was presented at the main station in Pilsen as the first of a total of seven Class 844 DMUs that will undergo modernization.
These units have been in service in the Pilsen Region since 2012. Over more than 13 years of intensive operation, their condition has gradually deteriorated. “The large number of passengers on busy suburban trains, the maximum use of the units in operation, but especially the indecisive fingers of vandals and similar persons have of course had their say on the condition of the equipment of these trains,” specifies Jiří Kozák, director of the organizer of Integrated Transport of the Pilsen Region.
Therefore, in the contract with ČD, the Pilsen Region required their complete renovation and revitalization before further use. The renovation carried out in the DPOV works focused primarily on the interior and was carried out by ČD based on the requirements of the Pilsen Region. In addition to the renewal of the seats, a larger number of electrical outlets were added, including USB-A and USB-C connectors. Information displays, buttons, handles, waste bins and tables were also modernized. The toilets underwent a significant transformation and in selected units the floor covering was also replaced, especially in the boarding areas. An integral part of the work was a thorough cleaning of the interior.
The refurbished RegioSharks will be delivered in a uniform look, which unifies the appearance of trains and buses ordered by the Pilsen Region.
