From 10 May 2021 it is planned that OUIGO España will start its open access high speed passenger services between Madrid and Barcelona, with five daily return journeys, and with intermediate stops in Zaragoza and Tarragona. The operator is working with Adif and AESF (Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Ferroviaria, the State Railway Safety Agency) to carry out all the necessary tests.
Although in the past there have been nocturnal test runs using the OUIGO TGV Euroduplexes, the first daytime runs took place on 29 March 2021, with unit 809 being used for two return trips between Madrid and Barcelona Sants, in connection with driver training. Also currently based in Madrid are TGVs 808 and 810.
For the future it is also planned that OUIGO España will serve destinations in Levante (Valèncie, Alicante) and Andalusia (Sevilla, Alicante).
