On 3 November 2026, the first shovels of earth have been turned: Stadler starts construction of a new commissioning centre in Weinfelden. The company is investing around 40 million CHF in the site and will create around 80 new jobs. From the first half of 2028 onwards, new rail vehicles will be thoroughly tested and prepared for service in Weinfelden.
The productivity of Stadler’s Swiss manufacturing sites has increased steadily in recent years. As a result, the existing IBS centre in Erlen has reached its capacity limits. Since further expansion at the Erlen site is only possible to a limited extent, Stadler is building an additional commissioning centre in Weinfelden to create further capacity. Located close to the company’s headquarters in Bussnang, the new facility will enable Stadler to efficiently test and commission new rail vehicles.
The symbolic kick-off for the construction was carried out by Stadler representatives together with Simon Wolfer, Mayor of Weinfelden, and representatives of the architectural firm MP Architektur AG.
The new commissioning centre will comprise a hall measuring approximately 210 m in length, 35 m in width, and 16 m in height, featuring four indoor tracks and one outdoor track. The facility will also include office space, meeting rooms, staff areas, workshop and storage facilities for final assembly activities, and a paint finishing team. In addition, electrified test tracks with a total length of 750 m will be built directly north of the new hall.
