On 3 November 2025, WESTbahn announced that the approval process for the CRRC-built Class 4100 is nearing completion and that it will soon add four of these EMUs to its fleet. The latter will have then a total of 19 double-decker six-car EMUs, 15 of which are Stadler-built KISSes. This expansion of the fleet will allow WESTbahn to operate up to 33 pairs of services on the Westbahn line daily and create a frequency of up to half an hour.
The press release states that “the new trains will be gradually introduced into service in the coming weeks.” Following our question, WESTbahn clarified that this is to happen before the new timetable comes into force on 14 December 2025.
