Transmashholding announced in 2025 that it is preparing a new platform for mulitple units. Its first prototype is to be a hydrogen train (HMU). TMH CEO Kirill Lipa stated: “We do not have any significant demand yet, this HMU project is a purely technological step. This is not an attempt to conquer a specific market, this market does not exist and has not yet emerged. We are implementing the project using a new platform for units, and later we can remove the hydrogen drive and build only electric trains.”
The future HMU is designated model 62-4584. Last year, TVZ produced four bodyshells for the end cars of Models 62-4585 and 62-4586 and two sets of booster sections of Model 62-4587. The bodyshell of the 62-4585 was sent to TIV (Tverskoy institut vagonostroyenia, Tver institute of car building, also part of TMH), where it was subjected to longitudinal compressive forces in the coupling axis on a test bench.
In addition, vertical loads simulating the car weight, including equipment and at maximum passenger load, were tested. Tests were also carried out involving lifting the bodyshell at the couplings and on jacks. Approximately 250 tenzometers were installed on the bodyshell to monitor the stresses, which is more than three times the number of other standard tests.
Based on the results of all tests, TIV confirmed that the end bodyshell for the HMU complies with the standards. Similar tests are currently underway at TIV on the bodyshell of the Model 62-4588 intermediate car. In the meantime, the end car bodyshells have been sent to the DMZ for final assembly.
