Up To 117 New FLEXITY Trams For Berlin

posted on 16th Dec 2020 07:59

On 16 December 2020, Bombardier Transportation signed a new framework agreement with BVG (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe) for delivery of up to 117 FLEXITY trams and their spare parts supply for up to 32 years, the total worth being around 571 million EUR. Simultaneously, BVG placed an initial firm order for 20 trams and their spare parts supply for up to 32 years, worth around 115 million EUR.

The batch of twenty will comprise three five-car and 17 nine-car trams. The latter will be 50 m long, being 10 m longer than all other BVG trams. The new FLEXITIES will feature Obstacle Detection Assistance System (ODAS) to avoid collisions, and suchlike.

For the first time in collaboration with BVG, Bombardier is taking over the complete supply of spare parts and materials over the entire service life of the vehicles, offering a fixed price per km which gives the operator security in its long-term planning and calculations.

With this new order the number of FLEXITY trams in Berlin will grow to 251. The last one of the current fleet of 231 trams is expected to be delivered in 2021.
