CAF‘s new service contracts in Brasil and New Zealand

These are two new train maintenance contracts, worth more than 100 million EUR in total, under which CAF will carry out maintenance work on train fleets that it has supplied. 

Maintenance of the Sao Paulo Metro Line 5 units

CAF has entered into a contract with Motiva Group (formerly CCR), the Brazilian concessionaire that operates Line 5 of the Sao Paulo Metro. The agreement covers 14 years of comprehensive maintenance for the 26 six-car units supplied by CAF under the 2011 contract awarded by Sao Paulo Metro. This work will be carried out at the Capao Redondo and Guido Caloi workshops.

These units serve Metro Line 5 (Lilac), which runs through the densely populated city of Sao Paulo. This is one of the six lines that make up the metropolitan system, spanning 20 km and connecting several of the city's main districts, including Santo Amaro, Moema, and Vila Mariana, carrying over 600,000 passengers a day.

This contract strengthens CAF's presence in Brazil, a country in which the company has been operating since 1998. During this time, CAF has completed projects worth over 2 billion EUR for various Brazilian clients, including CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos), Trensurb in Porto Alegre, CBTU in Belo Horizonte, and Sao Paulo Metro.

A new service contract in New Zealand

CAF has also signed a new services contract with Auckland One Rail Limited (AOR), a private company owned 50 % by ComfortDelGro and UGL Rail Services, which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Auckland's electric rail network, the most extensive in New Zealand, belonging to Auckland Transport. The system has four lines, with a total length of 94 km and 42 stations, making it a key hub for urban mobility in the country.

The scope of the contract covers the provision of engineering services, training, and spare parts for the fleet of 95 EMUs supplied by CAF to Auckland Transport since 2011. The contract will last for five years, and the work will be carried out at the workshop located in Wiri, Auckland, where these units are maintained.

CAF currently maintains more than 150 service contracts in 20 countries and provides maintenance for around 11,600 cars. This work is carried out by a workforce of over 4,000 people.
