On 3 June at the transport logistic 2025, the Polish pool CARGOUNIT ordered 22 more Vectrons from Siemens Mobility. Of this number, 12 were ordered as an additional sub-order (7x A10 and 5x A17 versions), placed under a framework contract for up to 100 Siemens locomotives closed in February 2024.
The remaining ten (3x A10 and 7x A17) were ordered separately, as they were subject to another Polish combined transport support programme using EU funds. Following the support announced under POIiŚ 2014 - 2020, this will now be provided through the National Recovery Plan - Krajowego Plan Odbudowy (list of projects to be supported). This again allowed up to 50% of eligible expenditure to be covered, with a total of 17 projects being granted support totalling PLN 781 598 808 (approx. 183 million EUR).
The locomotives are scheduled for delivery in 2025 - 2026. The A10 locomotives will be equipped for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and optionally the Netherlands, while the A17 version includes Poland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and optionally Serbia. In addition, all locomotives will be equipped for operation in Romania and Bulgaria.
In total, CARGOUNIT's fleet of ordered Siemens locomotives amounts to 106 electric locomotives (88 Vectrons and 18 Smartrons), and in the future, with the full activation of the use of options from the framework agreement, it may even increase to more than 150 vehicles.
„Cooperation with CARGOUNIT is a model example of development in the Central and Eastern European market using proven and reliable multi-system locomotives. It is worth betting on reliable and trustworthy partners - providing support both in the supply of modern rolling stock, but equally importantly, its effective maintenance throughout its life cycle through professional service. We proudly observe the development of CARGOUNIT and are happy to be an important part of this through our vehicles and maintenance services", said Michal Marciszewski, CFO of Siemens Mobility Sp. z o.o.
„The purchase of multi-system locomotives from the Vectron platform will further strengthen CARGOUNIT's position in the market for the full-service rental of modern multi-system locomotives. We are observing continued growth in the intermodal transport market and a renaissance in passenger transport in Central and Eastern Europe, and Vectron MS locomotives perfectly meet the needs of our customers who are looking for reliable and proven multi-system locomotives and appreciate the high quality of services provided by CARGOUNIT. Over the past five years, the company has purchased and leased over 100 modern electric locomotives to customers on a full-service basis and currently has orders for over 80 additional locomotives in its portfolio", said Łukasz Boroń, CEO of CARGOUNIT Sp. z o.o.
The ordered Vectron MS locomotives will have 6.4 MW of AC power and 6.0 MW of DC power, and will be equipped with an on-board ETCS that complies with current specifications (Baseline 3).
