posted on 16th Mar 2026 16:01

In October 2025, Comboios de Portugal and Alstom signed a contract for 117 new three-car regional Adessia Stream EMUs, the supply of spare parts, and the construction of a maintenance facility in Guifões. The order was divided in 62 units for urban and 55 for regional services. With an investment of 746 million EUR, co-financed by 117.6 million EUR from European funds and 212.5 million EUR from the Environmental Fund, this is the largest rolling stock acquisition investment in the company’s history.

The delivery of the first trains is scheduled to start in 2029. Simultaneously, CP looked for measures to bring to order an additional 36 units for urban services. This was successful and on 10 March 2026, the latter batch was confirmed, the complete contract to supply 153 three-car Adessia Streams achieving worth 1.03 billion EUR.

A new fleet of 98 of the commuter trains with a capacity of up to 450 passengers will strengthen suburban connections in the Lisbon, Porto and Cascais areas, while the remaining 55 trains will enhance services on regional lines.

As part of the contract, Alstom will establish a new factory in Matosinhos, in the Porto region. The facility will cover more than 20,000 m2, its construction will be carried out in partnership with Portuguese civil works company DST. The project will create close to 300 jobs in Portugal, including engineering, technical and skilled trades roles. 15 % of positions will be reserved for young unemployed people, the long-term unemployed and individuals with health conditions or impairments.

We asked for the technical data of the new trains (axle arrangement, voltage, traction power, brake power, maximum speed, dimensions, weights, capacity seats/standees) to have the article according to our quality standards. We are waiting for an answer.
