FLIRTs For German-Polish New Services

posted on 21st Nov 2022 11:29

On 18 November 2022, Stadler has been awarded a contract by DB Regio for the delivery of nine four-car FLIRT XL EMUs for use on the new RE9 regional express line between Berlin Airport Terminals 1 + 2 and Szczecin, which will be accelerated by approx. 20 minutes, as well as the RB66 Angermünde - Szczecin line. In addition, seasonal extensions of some journeys from Szczecin to Międzyzdroje and Świnoujście are being sought. The award of the contract was preceded by the award of the network to DB Regio by the Verkehrsverbund Berlin Brandenburg (VBB).

The new FLIRTs will offer space for approx. 380 passengers, 255 of them on seats. Four spacious multi-purpose areas allow the transport of up to 21 bicycles, prams or wheelchairs per train. The units will have five doors on each side, thus ensuring fast passenger changes. The service car with the parking spaces for the wheelchairs each has an optimised boarding area for platforms at a height of 550 or 760 mm above rail top.

In order to be able to travel across borders, the FLIRTs will be equipped with the Guardia ATP from Stadler. Guardia has so far been used on trains in various European countries, including Switzerland, Poland, Hungary and Slovenia. In Germany, the first regional trains with the Stadler ETCS solution will be used from 2026 on the Maas-Wupper-Express across borders to the Netherlands.
