Leo Express acquires more carriages

posted on 25th Feb 2026 17:52

Leo Express is beginning to transport cars from Germany for the Przemyśl - Praha - Frankfurt/M train. The first batch of twenty 1st and 2nd class carriages was transported from Engelsdorf on 25 February 2026, bound for the České Budějovice-based company 4RAIL. This will be followed by further transports, bringing the total number to 50. In the coming days, two more Talgo trainsets are also expected to arrive in the Czech Republic, these intended for the Praha - Košice and Praha - Olomouc - Bratislava connections.

Leo Express uses Vectron 7193 147, hired on a short-term basis from RSL (ultimately one of locomotives intended for hire to ZSSK CARGO), for these transports, while in Germany, transports are carried out under a RailAdventure license.

Train service on the Przemyśl - Ostrava - Praha - Děčín - Leipzig - Frankfurt/M airport route (two days a week only between Bohumín and Frankfurt/M airport) should commence on 25 June 2026.

This coming weekend, 28 February/1 March, Leo Express will discontinue its Prahae - Prešov service using DC-only FLIRT units and will use them to reinforce its connections to Poland. The primary reason is the carrier's unpreparedness for the (long-known) conversion of the power supply system in the Žilina junction from 3 to 25 kV. LE promises to resume the line to Prešov on 1 May 2026, with Talgo units. In the meantime, however, the planned date for the commissioning of the AC power supply in Žilina has been postponed, currently to September 2026...
