New Stadtbahn Avenios For Düsseldorf And Duisburg

posted on 13th Oct 2020 14:32

On 13 October 2020 Düsseldorfer Rheinbahn and Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft (DVG) have jointly ordered 109 Avenio HF (high-floor) two-car Stadtbahn trams from Siemens Mobility, 91 of them for Rheinbahn and 18 for DVG. The contract worth of almost 400 million EUR also includes an option for 48 trams and the maintenance and servicing of the Duisburg vehicles for 24 years and an option for a further eight years. A 24-year spare parts supply contract was signed for the Düsseldorf vehicles. Delivery is planned to start in 2025.

This order marks Siemens’s return to the market of high-floor trams. They will be used on the approximately 85 km long network in Duisburg and Düsseldorf, and will also run to the cities of Neuss, Krefeld and Meerbusch. The 1,435 mm gauge Avenio HF will have 51 seats and a space for up to 178 standees. In order to serve different platform heights (30 and 90 cm about rail top), all vehicles will be equipped with folding steps.

Air suspension, air conditioning and infotainment systems will ensure maximum passenger comfort. The Siemens Tram Assistant digital collision warning system will support the driver with radar and video sensors that provide early detection of potentially dangerous situations, helping to avoid accidents.

We asked Siemens for the principal technical data of the new trams (axle arrangements, supply voltage, traction power, brake power, maximum speed, dimensions). We are waiting for an answer.
