ZSSK has secured financing for new BEMUs from EU funds

On 5 May 2026, ZSSK announced that it had secured financing for the purchase of 16 new BEMUs for regional transport. The national operator concluded a non-refundable financial contribution agreement with the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic, which was signed and entered into force in April 2026. The total eligible project expenses are 144,012,608 EUR excluding VAT.
ZSSK signed a contract for the supply of BEMUs in December 2025 with a consortium of suppliers ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION and ŽOS Trnava. The contract includes the supply of 16 units with the possibility of expanding by another 20 optional trains. The supply of the BEMUs is expected to be gradual from 2028.
