ZSSK's first WLABm cars in passenger service

In early September, ZSSK introduced the first modernized double-deck sleepers from ŽOS Vrútky into regular service. The operator states the following: ZSSK presented the first modernized WLABm to the public in June at Rail Business Days in Ostrava. Three months later, the first four cars are already in regular operation on R 680/681 "Zemplín" Bratislava - Humenné services. The carriages offer higher comfort, more privacy, air conditioning, electric sockets and USB charging for each bed, as well as a Deluxe compartment with its own shower and toilet.
For example, an adult passenger without any additional discount will pay 67.40 EUR for the whole trip in a separate Single Deluxe compartment with its own toilet and shower on the night Bratislava - Humenné service. Of this, 23.40 EUR is the basic fare and 44 EUR is the bed surcharge.
When traveling in a Double Deluxe double compartment, the same train costs 52.40 EUR per person. The price may change depending on the specific connection, the passenger's entitlement to a discount and the selected accommodation category.
Today, ZSSK operates approximately 30 sleeping cars. The average age of this part of the fleet is approximately 40 years, and the operator wants to phase out approximately 20 of the oldest coaches. In total, ZSSK plans to include ten WLABm/WLBm cars.
