Akiem announced the official inauguration of its new maintenance site in Borlänge, Sweden, on 22 October 2025. This strategic milestone marks a new chapter in Akiem’s commitment to developing a high-quality maintenance ecosystem across Europe. The event brings together customers and prospects, offering a unique opportunity to discover the capabilities of the new workshop, engage with Akiem’s teams, and explore tailored maintenance solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of Scandinavian rail operators.
Located in the heart of Sweden’s railway network, the Borlänge workshop is ideally positioned to serve operators across Sweden and Norway, including corridor traffic towards Germany and Denmark. The workshop, spanning 600 m2, features office space and two pits. It is equipped for preventive and corrective maintenance, with lifting jacks and cranes enabling in-house execution of complex operations - delivering both cost efficiency and faster turnaround times.
This facility is operated by Akiem Maintenance & Services (AMS) and reflects Akiem’s long-standing presence in Sweden, where the company has been active for 15 years with a dedicated local team of 30 professionals. Volker Wallrodt, Managing Director of AMS, said: “The Borlänge site was initially developed to diversify maintenance solutions beyond our well-established presence in Hallsberg and now serves as a cornerstone for expanding Akiem’s maintenance offering in the region.”
The inauguration will also serve as a platform for networking and dialogue, as Akiem continues to invest in the Scandinavian market to support operators facing growing demands for modern, reliable locomotives.
