CargoServ locomotives in a new look

posted on 20th Mar 2026 11:04

On 16 December 2025, CargoServ took over the new Vectron 7193 601 from ELL. This locomotive heralds a new design era at the operator, being the first one to sport the new CargoServ livery.

This Vectron is the third of its type in the company‘s fleet, which now comprises 11 electric and 3 diesel locomotives. The locomotive will primarily be used for round-trip services for voestalpine Stahl (the "Bayernshuttle," a round-trip concept for transporting finished goods and scrap to/from Germany, winner of the 2021 German Logistics Award) and on the Tauern route (finished goods to Italy). However, it is also ready for use in all CargoServ services.

After 25 years, CargoServ was ready for a visual relaunch of its distinctive yellow, blue, and gray locomotives. The goal: to create a fresh and modern look while maintaining the recognizability of the existing design. Following a recommendation from ELL, a new foil application technique was used, characterized by greater durability and higher UV resistance.

The new design is now being gradually implemented on new and existing locomotives. Just in time for the 25th anniversary that LogServ and CargoServ will celebrate in 2026: LogServ and CargoServ were founded on 1 April 2001. Incidentally, a CargoServ lime train from Steyrling to Linz was, at that time – during the still-young liberalization of rail freight transport – the first freight train operated by a private railway undertaking on the public rail network in Austria.
