New double-deck cars for „Burevestnik“

On 8 October 2025, TVZ confirmed the certificate of conformity with the requirements of TR TS 001/2011, version 2024, for the new Model 61-4492 double-deck car with seats, specially designed for the new „Burevestnik“ („Thunderbird“) trains, which will run on the Moskva - Nizhny Novgorod route. Unlike these cars for the „Aurora“ trains Moskva - St. Petersburg, this version has an additionall toilet (now there are three), and innovative “starry sky” lighting is included not only in the first class, but also in the second class cars.
The interior offers two seat configurations: the standard one with 104 seats, and a comfortable one with only 60 seats. All seats are equipped with electrical outlets and USB-C ports. The interior is decorated in gray, beige and light green tones. The exterior livery combines green and gray colors and is complemented by the silhouette of the Burevestnik bird. This design element refers to the earlier single-deck train „Burevestnik“, which linked Moskva and Nizhny Novgorod (Gorky until 1990) since the 1960s. Its operation ended in 1993, but in 2002 the service returned and consisted of TVZ-built coaches. However, also this train was canceled, in 2014.
The new „Burevestnik“ will include double-deckers with a maximum speed of 160 km/h and an unified design, of which a total of 37 will be built for RZD at Tver in the following versions: with seats (28 cars), Type SV sleepers (3 cars), dining cars (3 cars) and „staff“ cars with a staff compartment and PRM facilities (3 cars). The new services should start operating in December 2025.
